...To Kill a Mocking Bird By: Harper Lee is a story that expresses an example of self corruption. Like the poem I have connected to self-corruption, Power Corrupts, By: John Celes, it explains how the the fear of losing power is the reason why minds are corrupted. The character Mayella, in To Kill a Mockingbird, had a corrupted mind. Mayella's selfish personality placed her in a situation lying about the rapiest in the town of Maycomb. Her reputation of being the beautiful, trusted women in the town gave her enough power to think that she could corrupt and lie. She had over confidence about her capabilities and therefore she was corrupt and like Dr. John Celes said, she had the 'Power Bug'. Loosing the power of her reputation was a possibility that made her lie about a man raping her, and saw no problem in corrupting that man. Therefore like the quotation number one, it was the fear that corrupted Mayella, she was self corrupt...
