I really liked this quote for many reasons. The quote drew me in when I first read it.
When I first read this quote, I thought of joy, reading, and freedom but as I read it over I had to stop and think about what it really meant. I think this quote means that when you learn to read, you open yourself up to a whole new world of education. I think reading is the key to success, and how far your future holds in education. The experience of reading a good book makes you feel free, which I think is one of the messages in this quote. This quote reminded me of how much reading a good book feels relaxing. Feeling free to me means releasing stress and enjoying something. When I am reading a good book I feel like I have escaped the world for just a few chapters and I feel relaxed. Every time I read this quote it motivates me to keep on reading!

I totally agree with you Lauren, that is almost the exact same thing that I said about my quote for my blog. Also I really like your quote, it is very inspirational.
ReplyDeleteLauren, I love your quote! The main thing which I like about it is how it is slightly vague, and is therefore open to different interpretations by it's readers.
ReplyDeleteI love how it the quote says you will be free. It reminds me of my quote because they both talk about letting go of the pain in your life and escaping to become free in a book. Great job, I completely agree! :)
ReplyDeleteOh also,
ReplyDeleteI dont agree when is says forever free. The escape for me is always temporary because the book has an ending. You can't continue it forever and you always have to get back to your regular life, no matter how much you don't want to. You must face life, and not hide behind a book. That's my opinion!
We may continue our own story
DeleteEvery people has the cage that imprison them with or without their own knowledge. This alone was a slavery of our own. Thus this is the hardest one to escape for sometimes we choose to stay while knowing the way out,we humans are naturally afraid of what we cannot understand. The book has a beginning and ending and whether if one really want that story end was that person decision alone.
DeleteHe meant you will be physically free...from bondage...from white slavery...this had nothing to do with escaping into another world mentally. He was telling black people to learn to read so they didn't get sold.
ReplyDeleteI-
DeleteThis quote means that knowledge leads you to freedom. Frederick Douglass was a slavery abolishment speaker. His point was the education and knowledge are powerful and can lead others to freedom. This is because education and literacy was often banned for slaves because it was seen as "power", further proving Douglass's point that freedom (which can be gained from power) is established through knowledge (or in this case, reading).
