In my book, brevity has been demanded. The book contains less than half a dozen characters. Of which 3 are the main characters, Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, and Gale Hawthorne. They are the most important characters because the plot is based around all three, but mainly Katniss. At the very beginning of the series, it mentions the main character, Katniss, and her friend Gale. The brevity mentions no unecessary detail. By the end of the book you realize that the main characters have feelings for each other.
The conflict is the life- blood in the book. There is a conflict that has arised and carried on from this book, Catching Fire, and from the previous book, The Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen rebelled the hunger games and now the "district is controlling her",(Collins 56) actions which is conflicting with her decisions in situations. For example, when Katniss comes home wounded and the counsil is waiting there for her. She has to act as though she was completely fine, otherwise the counsil will find out about her rebellious actions against the capitol, which she had done that day.
Katniss also has the 'man against himself' conflict. She has two boys she both likes, or doesn't like (Peeta and Gale).. She is creating suspense throughout the book because the reader can't quite determine who she will choose in the end. Gale kisses Katniss in the forest, chapter 2 which makes her confused about her feelings because meanwhile Peeta is madly in love with her, " Peeta leans down and kissed me," (Collins 245 Book 1) I think that she is having trouble deciding herself who she truly likes which is making it suspenseful.
The novel has placed a specific and appropriate theme for the book. The book has an issue of starvation and poverty. The main character, Katniss Everdeen does not live in the richest district. In her earlier years she had went through tough weeks of scraping for food for her family. In the arena of the Hunger Games, the competitors have to fight for food and water to survive. "As long as you can find yourself, you'll never starve". (Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games) Which leads into the other theme the book has, which is survival. The point of the Hunger Games is survival, to win you have to survive and to loose you must die. The book encounters many scares that the characters might not survive.
The setting is placed in a small town in a country called Panem which was once North America. The Capitol is the government that runs the country. There are 12 districts within Panem (Used to be 13). The setting takes place in district 12, where the main character lives. The setting also takes place in the Hunger Games arena, which is made up of the wilderness. The arena seems peaceful and beautiful until the killing begins to happen.
Very well written Lauren!! Just to make it a bit better you add more visual components to your blog. maybe add more colour or the book cover :)
